The Sigma 85mm F1.4 EX DG HSM is a discontinued, large-aperture prime lens for digital single-lens reflex (DSLR) cameras, renowned as a budget-friendly option for portrait and low-light photography. It was first announced in 2010 and released in 2011, before the company's high-performance Art series replaced it with an updated 85mm F1.4 DG HSM Art lens in 2016. 

Key features
  • Optics: The lens features 11 elements in 8 groups, including special low-dispersion (SLD) glass and a molded glass aspherical element, to deliver sharp images with good color correction.
  • Wide aperture: With a maximum aperture of f/1.4 and a rounded 9-blade diaphragm, it produces a very shallow depth of field, excellent for isolating subjects with pleasing background blur (bokeh).
  • Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM): The HSM provides quiet, fast, and accurate autofocus, although it is not as quick or consistent as the newer Art-series lens.
  • Build quality: This lens has a solid "EX-finished" exterior, indicating a high-end build at the time of its release, and a durable metal mount.
  • Compatibility: It was produced for various full-frame DSLR mounts, including Canon EF, Nikon F, Pentax K, Sony A, and Sigma SA. On an APS-C sensor camera, its effective focal length becomes approximately 127.5mm.
  • Accessories: The lens includes a petal-shaped hood for full-frame sensors and an adapter to extend the hood's length for better light blocking on APS-C cameras.
