 is a discontinued, fast aperture super-telephoto prime lens for full-frame DSLR cameras. Praised for its solid optical performance and value, it was a popular third-party alternative to more expensive options from major camera brands. It was sold in versions for Sigma, Canon EF, Nikon F, Pentax, and Sony A mounts.

  • Fast aperture: The maximum f/2.8 aperture excels in low-light conditions and creates a shallow depth of field for pleasing background blur (bokeh).
  • Apochromatic (APO) design: The lens incorporates two Extra-low Dispersion (ELD) glass elements to minimize chromatic aberration and produce sharp, high-contrast images with excellent color fidelity.
  • Internal focusing: This design means the lens's overall length does not change while focusing, which promotes faster performance.
  • Hyper Sonic Motor (HSM): Versions made for Sigma, Canon, and Nikon cameras included this motor for quick, quiet, and responsive autofocus, with full-time manual focus override. Pentax and Sony versions used the camera's mechanical focusing drive.
  • Drop-in filter holder: The lens uses a rear-mounted, 46mm drop-in filter system, which is common for large telephoto lenses. It also features an external ring to easily rotate a circular polarizing filter.
  • Teleconverter compatibility: The lens is compatible with Sigma's dedicated APO 1.4x and 2x EX teleconverters, allowing you to convert it into a 420mm f/4 or 600mm f/5.6 autofocus lens.
