 is available for the Nikon Z mount. The second-generation lens was announced for Nikon Z-mount cameras in October 2025, following its initial release for Sony E-mount. The lens is designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras but can also be used on APS-C format bodies. 

Key features
  • Built-in Vibration Compensation (VC): The G2 version adds Tamron's proprietary VC image stabilization, a feature absent in the first-generation model. This allows for more stable shooting and is effective for both stills and video, particularly at the telephoto end.
  • Compact and lightweight: Despite the addition of VC, the lens remains one of the smallest and lightest in its class, which makes it easier to carry and handle than a typical 70–200mm f/2.8 lens.
  • Fast and quiet autofocus: It uses Tamron's VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor, which provides high-speed, precise, and quiet autofocus performance, suitable for both photography and video.
  • Improved close-up capability: The minimum focusing distance (MOD) has been improved to 0.3 meters (11.8 inches) at the 70mm wide end, allowing for unique close-up shots.
  • Tamron Lens Utility software: The lens has a USB-C port for direct connection to a computer or smartphone. This allows users to customize functions and update the firmware using the Tamron Lens Utility application.
  • Durable construction: The lens has a moisture-resistant construction and a fluorine coating on the front element to protect against smudges and fingerprints.
