Tamron 17-50mm F4 Di III VXD
 is a lightweight, internal-zoom lens for full-frame Sony E-mount mirrorless cameras, prized by videographers and travel photographers for its unique ultra-wide to standard zoom range. It features a fast and quiet VXD autofocus motor and is compatible with Tamron's customization software. 

Performance and image quality
  • Sharpness: Center sharpness is impressive across the zoom range, but corner sharpness is not as strong, especially at the telephoto end. Stopping down the aperture can improve corner performance.
  • Autofocus (AF): The VXD linear motor provides very fast, precise, and quiet autofocus, which is ideal for both stills and video. It can reliably track moving subjects, even in low light.
  • Color and contrast: Images from the lens have pleasing color rendition and good contrast. The BBAR-G2 coating helps to suppress ghosting and flare.
  • Bokeh: The out-of-focus background blur is generally smooth, especially when shooting at close distances. However, the f/4 aperture and wide-angle design mean you can't achieve a very shallow depth of field in most situations.
  • Distortion: Uncorrected RAW files show extreme barrel distortion at 17mm, though it is less of an issue at longer focal lengths. Most modern Sony cameras and editing software can effectively correct for this distortion automatically.
  • Vignetting: Vignetting (darkening at the corners) is noticeable at f/4, especially at the wide end, but is well-controlled by f/5.6.
